New Launcher, New Website & Fixes

Big day for PlayDance! We have a brand-new launcher, a new installer, a redesigned website and a round of important fixes. Here is everything that changes, step by step. 🎉

🚀 The new PlayDance Launcher

The launcher has a completely new look, and it does a lot more than before:

• News: the latest news from playdance.net appears right in the launcher. Click any of them to read it.
• Server status: see if the server is online and how many players are dancing right now.
• Community: Discord, WhatsApp and TikTok are one click away.
• Display mode: choose HD (800×600), WIDE HD (16:9) or CLASSIC (800×600, the original look) and press PLAY. Your choice is remembered.
• Settings: start in fullscreen, launcher sounds, close the launcher when the game starts, Repair game files and Open game folder.
• Two accounts at once: you can open another game window while the game is already running. Turn off “Close launcher when the game starts” or just open PlayDance.exe again and press PLAY.
• Faster updates: updates now download several files at the same time. In our tests they were about 5 times faster than before.

You don’t need to download anything: just open PlayDance.exe and it updates itself.

💿 New installer for new players

The Download page now gives you PlayDance-Setup.exe, a small installer instead of the big ZIP file:

• It downloads the whole game for you (about 16 GB). On a good connection it takes around 10 minutes.
• If your PC doesn’t have DirectX 9.0c, it installs it for you (the official package from Microsoft).
• If the download stops, run it again with the same folder: it continues where it left off.
• It creates the desktop and Start menu shortcuts and opens the launcher when it finishes.

🌐 The new playdance.net

In case you missed it, the website has been completely redesigned. It is faster, easier to use and available in English, Spanish and Chinese. Listen to the Songs of the Month on the home page, learn about every game mode, watch our official streamers and join the conversation in the Community forum.

🎵 New in the game

• BPM on screen: the song’s BPM now appears in every game mode, next to your SPEED at the bottom left, and it follows the BPM changes of the song.
• New random option “Default 15+”: a random song of level 15 or higher, in the RANDOM tab of the song selector (also in 6 Keys rooms).

🛠️ Fixes

• Group Battle: fixed the crash that closed the game for the whole room (“Buffer overrun detected!”) when a group won without earning Honour.
• Back to the room: fixed a crash when returning to the room after a song if another player pressed READY at that moment.
• Stuck or slow updates: downloads are faster and more reliable for players all around the world.
• Play Classic: it always uses the latest dgVoodoo (2.85) with no watermark. If you prefer your own d3d9.dll, put it in the game folder and Play Classic will use yours.
